TRUST IS BUILT THROUGH TRANSPARENCY | A core value of Riley Family Farms is our commitment to total transparency. We are farmers generationally, but the decision to begin selling our pasture raised chicken beyond our family and neighbors was a response to problems we saw in the food system, and a growing number of folks looking for something better, just like us. Raising clean, additive free, nutrient dense chicken in cruelty free conditions on pasture was a response to the additive laden, nutritionally stripped, mass produced in confinement chicken that pervades the modern grocery store. But raising a better chicken wasn’t enough. Today’s conscious American meat shopper is assaulted with options, with large companies racing to provide “green washed” premium options–this is when wealthy companies use their leverage and market share to control labeling claims like “cage-free”, “free range”, or even “vegetarian fed”. All too often, these labels accompany evocative farm imagery on a product that is still confinement raised, full of additives, and is scarcely healthier for the land it is raised on, the corporately controlled farmers who raise it, or the consumer who eats it.

Riley Family Farms answer to green washing is transparency. We believe that consumers deserve to have their trust earned, and understand both the true quality of the product they buy from us and the process that brings it from the farm to their table. We grow thousands of chickens every year on our farm, and source pasture raised birds from small farmers with the same values. Every chicken you buy from Riley Family Farms is pasture raised; regeneratively farmed; non-GMO fed on land free of pesticides and herbicides; sourced from small family farms, as nearby to our own as possible; and all partnerships we enter into with other farms will be equitable, insuring they get a fair price and a path to preserving their farm for the next generation. 

1. Pasture Raised - The secret to the outstanding flavor, texture, and nutrition of our chicken is consistent access to plants, insects, sunlight, and fresh air. Our chicken is raised in mobile shelters moved daily, providing a generous amount of space to move, forage, and express their natural instincts. This practice is called rotational grazing, and it’s the foundation of our production system. RFF is committed to raising 100% of our birds on pasture, and sourcing only from farmers who practice rotational grazing in mobile field shelters - no short cuts or misleading labels.

2. Regeneratively farmed - Regenerative farming refers to an emergent method of farm land management that prioritizes soil health, biodiversity, and health of our water table. Our mission is to help foster a movement that preserves American ranches and prairies for future generations, on our farm and elsewhere. RFF is committed to managing our farm regeneratively, and sourcing only from farms with regenerative practices.

3. Non GMO fed & free of harmful additives - RFF raises and processes its chickens from of antibiotics, pesticides and herbicides, and all harmful additives, and feed them the best non-GMO feed we can source. From pasture to processor to plate, every chicken we sell is full of the good stuff, and free of any feed or ingredient you couldn’t eat on its own.

4. Grown by nearby and all American independent farmers in equitable relationships - RFF was founded on the belief that for our food system to be sustainable, it needed to become less centralized, and more fair. For too long, a few large corporations have had all the leverage over American chicken producers, dictating their practices and prices, forcing farmers to operate on small margins under a mountain of debt. When we source chicken, it is always from small, independently owned and operated family farms, as nearby to our own as possible.
